The Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) and FOX partnership continues to re-introduce boxing to a wide national audience.
All eyes were glued on FOX last Sunday as the network aired Super Bowl LIV between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
Nine different promos were shown for the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury February 22 rematch on the network that day, with the 8:02 p.m. ET ad drawing a peak viewership of 103.5 million, according to Nielsen ratings research.
In all, the ads generated 331 million impressions.
“To have the biggest fight of the year – Wilder vs. Fury – and boxing’s most dynamic heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, on a platform with the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in America, is nothing short of phenomenal,” said Tim Smith, PBC spokesperson and VP of Communications for Haymon Boxing. “It also demonstrates the commitment of FOX and PBC to help push boxing back into the sports mainstream where it belongs.”
The undefeated Wilder (42-0-1, 41 KOs) is widely considered the greatest puncher in boxing history. He will make the 11th defense of his WBC World Heavyweight title when he rematches Fury (29-0-1, 20 KOs), the unbeaten former unified champion, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, live in a historic, mega pay-per-view (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT).
In December 2018, Wilder and Fury fought to a split draw in a thrilling fight that entered mainstream consciousness. Fury outboxed Wilder for large stretches but Wilder dropped him once in the ninth and nearly ended the bout with another knockdown in the dramatic twelfth.
The two will settle their unfinished business on February 22 in what will be the biggest heavyweight fight on U.S. soil since 2002, when Lennox Lewis defeated Mike Tyson in Memphis, Tennessee.
